This book is a thorough study of the development and state of aviation, focusing primarily on cross-country flights and the continuing influence of these flights on the future of aviation. The author contends that these flights hold the key to more efficient aviation technology and the increased safety of flight in the future. At the beginning of the 20th century, aviation pioneers were quick to recognize that the greatest obstacle standing in the way of aviation's progress was overcoming the burden of weight which carried with it limited flight times and short distances. The author provides a historical look at early flight distance record attempts and discusses the technological innovations that grew out of these challenges. This comprehensive book will appeal to aviation buffs, historians, and anyone interested in the evolution of flight. Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
