From the owners and occupiers of land, the merchant and manufacturer find a very ex tenfive demand for the various articles they import or fabricate. And when we 'rcc fleet on the [late of the public debt of this country-ou the taxes which are now raifed to pay the' mterel'r of that debt, - the land at once prefents itfelf as the folid and ul timate fecurity for the payment of that in tereft. It is an indifputable fact, that many hundred thoufand acres of the belt arable land, employed in the culture of barley, do annually, exclufive of a rack rent, pay more in taxes to government, and parochial and country rates than the whole produce of the crop grown upon them. How attentive then ought this nation to be to this important object; 'to give every poflible encouragement to the improvement of agriculture 3 to cherifh.
