Excerpt from Medicines for Drug Abuse: Revewing the Strategy; Hearing Before the Subcommittee on Juvenile Justice of the Committee on the Judiciary, United States Senate, One Hundred Third Congress, Second Session April 19, 1994
Dr. Earley. Thank you, Senator Biden and Senator Hatch. Let me say that we are very pleased to have the opportunity to be here before you today to discuss this report. I might also add that your very accurate introductions of the members of our committee has used up about half of my introductory remarks.
I would like to recognize two other members of the committee, Dr. Joan culpepper-morgan from Yale and Dr. Albert Williams from the rand Co who are also with us.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book reports on a significant research effort to review the state of drug abuse treatments, specifically focusing on medications to treat drug addiction. The author argues there is scientific promise for medications to lessen an addict's craving for cocaine or block its impact on the brain. The study reviews the biological, social, and legal challenges to addiction medicine and offers a roadmap to advance therapies. A key part of the solution is to increase funding for development of these medications, as well as address the regulatory hurdles that restrict research. The book also emphasizes the need to train more people in therapies for treating addiction. The author argues that addiction is a multifaceted disease requiring both medication and therapy. The book concludes with a strong call for increased research funding, reduced regulatory barriers, and more training for therapists.
