Excerpt from Proceedings of the New Jersey, Historical Society, 1848, Vol. 2: 1846-1847
The Society met pursuant to adjournment in the lecture room of the First Presbyterian Church. The Hon. Joseph C.Hornblower, President, took the chair; Col. R.G. Johnson, first Vice President, being also present.
After the minutes of the last meeting were read, the Corresponding Secretary made his report of the correspondence since September, and laid before the Society, letters from the Hon. Randolph Manning, of Michigan, Col. Ichabod J.Crane, U.S. A., James Fennimore Cooper, Esq., and others, in acknowledgement of their election as Corresponding or Resident ftiembers, from the Massachusetts Historical Society, American Philosophical Society, &c.
Various donations were announced, and Col. Johnson presented an original biographical sketch of John Fenwick, chief Proprietor of Salem Tenth, and a copy of some correspondence between Governor Andres, of New York, and the authorities of the Lower counties on the Delaware in1675-78, in relation to the arrest of Fenwick. This last, on motion of Dr. Lewis Condict, was referred to the Committee on Publications.
Mr. VViLLiAJi B.Kinney, from that Committee, made a report in relation to the publication of another volume of Collections, to consist of a Life of General Lord Stirling, by the Hon. Wm. A. Duer; and also in recommendation of the quarterly publication of the Society.
