Excerpt from Practical Notes on the Cyanide Process
The writer has not projected in the following pages an exhaust ive treatise on the cyanide process. Such a work will inevi tably appear when the practical operation of the process has reached a higher state of perfection, and when its very complex chemistry is more thoroughly understood. At the present time a knowledge of the details of practice in large cyanide mills in South Africa, Australasia, and the United States is somewhat difficult to obtain; the methods of operating, for which each operator claims a certain amount of originality, are, as a rule, secrets jealously guarded, and in consequence we have a rather meager literature on the subject.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a comprehensive guide to the cyanide process for extracting gold from ores and tailings. The cyanide process is a chemical process that uses cyanide to dissolve gold from ore, and was first commercially applied to the extraction of gold and silver in 1890. The book covers the history, chemistry, and practical aspects of the cyanide process, including a wealth of practical detail for the benefit of those working in the field. It also discusses the limitations of the process, such as the presence of certain deleterious substances that can result in excessive cyanide consumption, the presence of gold and silver in forms in which it is not easily yielded up, and the effect of iron salts. The author also offers a balanced assessment of the cyanide process, acknowledging its benefits and drawbacks, and emphasizing the need for careful evaluation of each ore or tailings material to determine its suitability for cyanide treatment. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
