Die erste Auflage gegenwärtigen Buches erschien vor fünfzehn Jahren. So lang dieser Zeitraum auch ist, so kann der Verfasser dennoch mit dem Erfolge seiner Arbeit zufrieden sein: denn die Grundsätze, die er in der Kunst vertritt, finden heutzutage nur in engeren Kreisen volle Zustimmung. Wenn also dennoch eine zweite Auflage nötig wurde, so ist das ein unverkennbares Zeichen, dass diese Kreise an Umfang nicht abgenommen haben. Über die Grundsatze aber, welche ihn bei der Abfassung seines Lehrbuches geleitet haben und die in demselben weiter ausgeführt sind, mögen die folgenden wenigen Worte an dieser Stelle genügen.
