Cuando, en Marzo de 1882, empezamos en la Reoís¿a de España la publicacion de los apuntes adquiridos da rante nuestra permanencia' en Filipinas, no abrigábamos otro objeto que satisfacer la justa curiºsidad de personas para nosotros muy queridas; más tarde, a peticion de al gunos amigos, demasiado indulgentes, prescindimos de nuestra pequeñez, para confeccionar el libro que hoy ve la luz pública. Hemos creído en él tratar desapasionada mente todas las cuestiones que se relacionan con nues tra Colonia, y en este concepto le entregamos al público, más bien con el deseo de contribuir al necesario conocí miento de aquellas regiºnes, que con la satisfaccion de haber hecho una obra perfecta.
