Synopsis

Excerpt from "Shakespeare" Identified in Edward De Vere, the Seventeenth Earl of Oxford

The solution to the Shakespeare problem, which it is the purpose of the following pages to unfold, was worked out whilst the Great European War was in progress; and my wish was to give the matter full publicity immediately upon the cessation of hostilities. As this was found to be im practicable, steps had to be taken, both to ensure that the results achieved should not be lost, and also to safeguard what I believed to be my priority of discovery. With these objects, an announcement of the mere fact of the discovery, omitting all details, was made in November, 1918, to Sir Frederick Kenyon, Librarian of the British Museum, and he very readily undertook to receive, unofficially, a sealed envelope containing a statement on the subject. As more than a year has passed since the deposition was made, and as no one else has come forward with the same solution, the question of priority is not likely now to arise, and there fore, with the publication of the present work, the purpose of the deposited document naturally lapses. My first duty, then, must be to express my deep sense of indebtedness to Sir Frederick Kenyon for the freedom from anxiety that I have enjoyed whilst further developing the argument and carrying through its publication.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the centuries-old debate surrounding the authorship of Shakespeare's plays. Challenging the traditional view that William Shakspere of Stratford-upon-Avon was the sole author, the author meticulously examines historical records, literary analysis, and biographical details to present an alternative candidate: Edward de Vere, the Earl of Oxford. By exploring the discrepancies between Shakspere's known life and the sophisticated themes and knowledge displayed in the plays, the author builds a compelling case for de Vere's hidden hand. The book sheds light on de Vere's aristocratic background, his extensive travels, and his deep understanding of law, music, and classical literature ΓΆβ β all elements that resonate strongly with the Shakespearean canon. Through close examination of de Vere's own poetry and the internal clues within the plays themselves, the author unveils a fascinating tapestry of hidden messages and self-revelation. This exploration not only challenges long-held assumptions about Shakespeare's identity but also offers a fresh perspective on the cultural and political landscape of Elizabethan England. Ultimately, this book invites readers to reconsider everything they thought they knew about Shakespeare, offering a thought-provoking and meticulously researched journey into the heart of one of literature's greatest mysteries. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
