Excerpt from Otto Weininger: Sein Werk und Seine Persönlichkeit

Ich glaube' zur Darstellung von Weiningere Ge dankenkreis aus dem Grunde befähigt zu sein, daß ich in den zwei Jahren vor seinem Tode (bis auf die letzten drei Monate, die er teilweise in Italien zugebracht hat) sehr vertrauten Umgang mit ihm gepflogen habe, das Werden von geschlecht und Charakter zum großen Teil miterlebt und fast alle Details mit ihm wiederholt durchgesprochen habe. Zudem decken sich meine eigenen Anschauungen vielfach mit denen Weiningen; sie haben zwar großenteils schon festgestanden, bevor ich seine Bekanntschaft gemacht hatte, erlitten aber durch seinen Einfluß vielerlei Modifikationen und haben in einigen Punkten auch auf ihn eingewirkt. Ich bemerke gleich hier ein für allemal, daß ich nicht alles billige, was er sagt, wohl aber das meiste. Zur Kritik im einzelnen wird sich Gelegenheit ergeben. Um jedem ein eigenes Urteil zu ermöglichen, wie weit ich allenfalls beitragen könne, Mißverstündnisse aufzuklären, die sich in Menge aus der unzulttnglichen Auffassung verschiedener Kapitel ergeben haben, will ich mir vorerst gestatten, einige persön liche Daten über mein Verhältnis zu Weininger mit zuteilen.
