Plus tard quand la nation aura grandi, en rencontrera des chants que des circonstances éphémères des motifs futiles inexplicables, ont fait adopter par le peuple mais ce n'est plus sa vraie poésie celle qui sort de ses entrailles et porte le cachet de sa race, ce n'est pins qu'un caprice dela mode ou une popularité bâtarde que les oscillations dela politique, plus capricieuses encore, ont fait naître et auront emporté avant qu'il soit demain. On chante Béranger, on chante le choeur de Robin des Bois, comme on a porté dans le temps, nous ne voulons blesser personne, comme on a porté des catogans des vertugadins et des souliers a la poulaine.
