This book proposes turning Ottawa into an ocean port, exploring the potential economic benefits of opening up the Ottawa River for trade from the Great Lakes to the Atlantic. The author argues that, as the Canadian Northwest develops, Ottawa could become a major transshipment hub for goods moving between eastern and western markets, boosting the city's economy and population. The author discusses the history of efforts to develop the Ottawa River as a shipping route, arguing that past attempts failed due to a combination of factors, including funding and technical challenges. The book also explores the role of the Ottawa Ship Canal in Canadian history, examining how it has been viewed as a potential solution to transportation problems in the country. Ultimately, the author suggests that the Ottawa Ship Canal project is not only feasible but necessary for Canada's future economic growth.
