Excerpt from L'École de Nisibe: Son Histoire, Ses Statuts
Tant que bar-çauma vécut, le règlement fut observé par tout le monde, mais non pas avec une égale bonne volonté. Après sa mort il fut négligé, et l'école commença à péricliter. Pour remédier à ce mal, quelques frères zélés se presente1 ent à l'évêque Osée (aussi appelé Élisée), successeur de Bar - Ganma, et lui demandèrent d' édicter de nou veaux statuts. Osée les engagea à tracer eux-mêmes leur règlement, en s'inspirant de celui de bar-cau ma et en s'aidant des conseils de Narsa1, le docteur, et de Yônan, le scribe de l'école. Ils rédigèrent ainsi vingt et un statuts qui furent mis en vigueur et solennellement acceptés par les frères composant la congrégation, en la huitième année du règne de Ka wad le 21 octobre 496. Ce second règlement nous est parvenu intégralement et forme la première des deux séries des statuts édités par M. Guidi. Dans la préface il est dit que le prem1er règlement avait été soustrait malicieusement de la bibliothèque et qu'on ne put en retrouver un seul exemplaire. Les nouveaux statuts devaient être substantiellement les mêmes que ceux de Bar - Çauma.
