François Maynard né à Toulouse en 1542 fut un des premiers membres de l'académie française. Son mérite lui fit obtenir l'emploi de secrétaire de la reine Marguerite. Il mourut dans sa province en 1646. Il avait beaucoup d'esprit et de talent pour la poésie. Il est fâcheux que ses vers soient remplis de plaintes continuelles contre les grands.
