Excerpt from The Catholic Church in Colonial Days: The Thirteen Colonies, the Ottawa and Illinois Country, Louisiana, Florida, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona, 1521-1763
The earliest project, that of the Rt. Rev. Simon Bruté, the great Bishop Of Vincennes, Catholic America, a work In of the history of the Church in South America, Mexico, Central America, and Canada, before taking up the annals of religion in the Thirteen Colonies, and under the Republic. The Sketch would have been necessarily very brief, and from the heads of chapters, as given by him, would have been mainly contemporary. Unfortunately Bishop Brute seems never to have begun the work.
