Having been frequently applied to by gold workers and others, with reference to certain difficulties relating to their trade, which they were unable to overcome mechanically, the idea pre sented itself to the mind of the Author, that a work practically treating on the Uses and Appli cations Of Gold, having special regard to the business of the goldsmith and jeweller, would be a useful auxiliary to the artificer also, by affording him a constant means for consultation and instruc tion.
