Excerpt from To Kairwân the Holy: Scenes in Muhammedan Africa
It is reported of the Prophet Muhammed, that on a certain night he leapt upon the winged steed Al Borac, which stood neighing by the awful Bayt Allah of Mecca, and that thereupon they flew together over Arabia and Sinai until they arrived at E1 Kuds, the earlier Kibleh of Islam. Here Muham med enstabled Al Borac in the Holy Rock, and mounting the Ladder of Light, he passed through the Seven Heavens, until he attained to the Lote Tree, beyond which there is no passing. Very noteworthy Suras in his Most Perspicuous Explication were composed after the lailat-al-miraj.
