Synopsis
This book examines the little-known origins of the Anglo-Saxon literary tradition, focusing particularly on the encounter between the pagan Germanic warrior culture and the culture of early English Christianity. The author traces the emergence of an Anglo-Saxon literary sensibility from their oral traditions, through the conversion to Christianity, to the development of a written literature under the influence of Latin Christian culture.
