I was solicited, about eight or nine months ago, by a professional Gentleman of this place, to write, in conjunction with him, a Hlsrour of peterhead, with an account of the Baths and Mineral Wells, It was accordingly com menced, and we had written several pages con junctly, when he was obliged to abandon it, on account of accumulating business in the line of his profession. I was, however, fortunate enough to obtain the assistance of Mr. Wallace, Teacher of Mathematics and Navigation in this place, from whom I received the most material help in writ ing the following History of Peterhead; which, small as the performance may appear, and, no doubt, very imperfect, has, however, cost a great deal of labour and trouble, owing to the difliculty with which information could be obtained 3 and to this circumstance must be attributed the imperfect manner in which several of the subjects are handled.'
