It begins with the initial association and fundraising to purchase land, and the building of the church. After organizing the church and calling the first pastor, the book provides the text of the first sermon. It includes the text of the articles of association signed by the founders, and the text of the church charter granted by the state of Pennsylvania in 1851. The text of church notices is included, as is the form of admission to the church and the sacrament of baptism. The book also provides a list of the members of the church as of the date of publication, along with brief summaries of important events such as baptisms, marriages, and deaths of members. The book gives insights into the history of Christianity in Philadelphia, and into the lives of people living in the city at the time.
