On March 2, 1891, he married Mary Elizabeth, daughter of George T. Peckham, of Orange county, New York; they have no children.

Dawes Coolidge of that city. He was educated in Europe, attending schools in Seville and Paris, in Hanover, where he studied music, and at Welling ton College in England, after which he took a classical course at the Roxbury Latin School, Bos ton, and entering Harvard, was graduated with the Class of 1892. In September following his gradu~ ation he became musical and dramatic critic and editorial writer on the Cincinnati Times - Star, which has maintained the confidence and support of a large constituency for the past sixty years, and is now the leading Republican Daily in the Ohio valley. In 1897 he was advanced to the position of Associate Editor, and in the following year to that of Managing Editor. Aside from his promi nence as a journalist, Mr. Carter is highly esteemed in musical and dramatic circles, enjoying the per sonal friendship of many of the leading actors and musicians of Europe and America, and is a c0n~ tributor to magazines and music journals. He is a life-member of the New England Historical and Genealogical Society, Boston, is a member of the Queen City Club, Cincinnati, and belonged to the University Club of that city during its existence.
