Eight locks on this ditision were miginally constructed of wood; they me so much decayed that they cannot be depended Upon tor another.season, and wih rt-qune to be rebuilt. The cost of 1ebuild inft them oi stone is estimated at $3380, 0110. The Boatd are of the Opinion that locks built Upon the combined plan (weed and stone) ought to be substituted for the present ones, and placed along side of them, so asinet to interrupt the navmatnn. The combining lock will cost but little over hall' the price 01 the stone lock, and possesses the advantage of being repaircel with facility at all seasons 0! The year.
