Excerpt from Synopsis of Prof. Baker's Lectures on Theory and Practice of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery
The practice of medicine is looked upon as a science and as an art. As a science it treats of the nature, existence, condition and causes of disease; as an art it is directed to the recognition, prevention and treat ment of diseases; cause of diseases is the most principal. Surgery is classified in the same way.
Practice of medicine is practically experimental. Females require smaller doses than males; the smaller the animal the smaller the dose; the climate as between heat and cold also governs, a larger dose is used in summer than in winter.
