Excerpt from Yorke's Peninsula Aboriginal Mission, Incorporated: A Brief Record of Its History and Operations
This little pamphlet is in no sense an exhaustive history of the Point Pearce Mission. Scarcely any records were kept prior to 1878, and it is therefore impossible to collect sufficient data to do justice to the Institution, founded nearly half a century since, and whose object has ever been the material advancement, moral and spiritual uplift, and amelioration of the conditions of the Aborigines on Yorke's Peninsula.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, a rich historical record, explores the 19th and 20th-century history of the Yorke Peninsula Aboriginal Mission. Founded in the 1860s, the mission became a sanctuary for displaced Aboriginal peoples. By tracing the efforts of the missionaries who struggled to improve the lives of impoverished communities, the book casts a light on the treatment of Aboriginal Australians during a turbulent period in their history. The narrative traces how farming and education initiatives attempted to transform the lives of indigenous families against a backdrop of social and economic challenges. The book provides valuable insights into the struggles and progress of Aboriginal communities in the face of assimilationist policies, and sheds light on the complexities of cross-cultural interaction in Australian history.
