Having essayed a visit to Russia in the summer of 1859, chiefly on scientific business, and having been rather unexpectedly detained there, while waiting for its full accomplishment, I took some trouble to utilize the extra Opportunities thus enjoyed, by in quiring into questions Of local interest, and trying to gain some acquaintance with a few of the leading thoughts and ideas of the more numerous classes of the people.
