Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a comprehensive study of the abundance and distribution of sardine and anchovy larvae in the California Current region over a decade. The author's data are derived from the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CalCOFI) surveys. This book is the result of nine years of monthly surveys and four years of quarterly ones, covering the waters off of California and Baja California, from Point St. George to below Cape San Lucas. Over 100 cruises and 36 station lines were included, providing a wealth of information on the distribution and relative abundance of sardine and anchovy larvae in this area. The author provides information on the size composition of larvae, and information about the increase in abundance of anchovy larvae since 1951, as well as the marked decline in the distribution and abundance of sardine larvae. This book will be of interest to those wishing to understand the dynamics of the California Current, and the variable population sizes of two key species within that system.
