Synopsis

Excerpt from Letters From Head-Quarters, or the Realities of the War in the Crimea

Once again the Author offers to the Public his narrative of the late War in the Crimea, but in a condensed form, which he hopes will render it more available for readers in general.

In the Second Edition the Author found it necessary to introduce a notice defending various statements in his book which had been censured and contradicted, in the public journals and elsewhere, by Lieutenant - General Sir De Lacy Evans, Major - General the Earl of Cardigan, and vice-admiral Sir James Deans Dundas. He has thought it best, in the present instance, to notice these in turn as they occur.

Certain passages have been omitted in this Edition which were considered unimportant; and, on the other hand, some few facts have been introduced, which, it is hoped, will not lessen the interest of the work.
