This book establishes a lively conversation between two significant scholars from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries: Cardinal Bellarmine of the Catholic Church and theologian Samuel Clarke. The author juxtaposes their writings to examine the core doctrines of each man's religious tradition and accentuate the disagreements within Christianity that persist even today. The author also highlights areas of surprising agreement between the two men, whose writings helpfully illuminate the history of Christian thought on key questions of theology and faith. The book's insights into these historical debates provide valuable context for understanding ongoing discussions about religious doctrine, dogma, and practice.
