Corren estos Llanos Norte Sur más de seiscientas leguas con latitud desde diez hasta cincuenta, y por falta de agua no es de pro vecho la vigésima parte de tan gran pedazo de tierra; en el cual hay muchos despoblados de veinte, á treinta y á cin cuenta leguas, en que ni aun para beber los caminantes nace agua, como vemos en las provincias de Piura y Ata cama; y así no tenían los indios poblado en estos Llanos más que las orillas de los ríos, y lo demás estaba yermo de hombres y animales.
