Excerpt from Autobiography of Frank G. Allen: Minister of the Gospel and Selections From His Writings
By prescription, which often has the force of law, a book should have both a Preface and an Introduction the first relating to the writer; the second to the things written. I may well dispense with the latter, for what is here written the humblest capacity can understand; and it would be cruel to detain him long on the porch who is anxious to enter the building.

Frank Gibbs Allen, founder of the "Old Path Guide," was born March 7, 1836. He became conspicuous as a leader among the young men in the political and social happenings of the community. Under the influence of Mrs. Allen, he became a member of the Church of Christ, being immersed by Win. Tharp, of Middletown. This marked a change in his life career. Henceforthhe made himself heard in the church which stood for primitive Christianity and the union of all of God's people on the basis of the written Word. He was known as a man of piety and ability; a man of keen logical acumen, and a clear and strong defender of the faith, both as speaker and writer, whether in the religious journals, or in the pulpit, or in debate. The most important effort of his life, was the establishment of "The Old Path Guide," in 1879. Its Motto, "Ask for the old paths and walk therein," was the key-sentence to all he espoused and wrote. During the remainder of his life, he gave to it his ripest thought, and the power of his prolific and trenchant pen was felt throughout the South. His spirit was readily the dominant factor in the growth and success of the paper, which, at the time of his death, was easily the leading religious paper of the South, and held rank with any then published throughout the brotherhood.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is the revealing autobiography of evangelist and author Frank G. Allen. Born into poverty on a Kentucky farm in 1836, Allen overcame adversity through diligent study and determination. The son of devout Methodists, his early religious experiences fueled his desire to understand the nature of salvation, culminating in his conversion and subsequent baptism. Despite his deep faith, he was also a spirited and mischievous youth, often engaging in playful pranks with his siblings. Allen's upbringing in the rural South had a profound impact on his life. This memoir offers a fascinating glimpse into the hardships and customs of that time and place. His struggles with poverty, illiteracy, and ill health provide a sobering contrast to his eventual success as a minister. Allen faced many challenges throughout his life, but his unwavering faith in God sustained him through adversity. Through Allen's candid self-reflection and vivid storytelling, readers will find themselves immersed in the life of a remarkable man. This book will captivate those interested in religious history, social conditions of the 19th century, and the indomitable human spirit.
