To the author's brother, Mr. Harry R. Guest, much of the credit for this little volume is due, as every line of type used in its prep aration was hand set by him. No other hands but his have shared in the actual making of the book. It was a work of many months, and stands as an instance of industry, patience and devotion to a brother's cause.
The selection of verses was made with a view to preserving, as far as possible, thesimpler rhymes of home. The little events of every day life, the laughable, discomforting and sorrowing incidents that occur daily have been the source of the author's inspiration. If but here and there a true note has been sounded, if the song that was written to cheer has really cheered, the author will feel that his labor has not been in vain.
