Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book examines the origins of the traditions concerning the lives of the apostles Peter and Paul, focusing on the development of the legends surrounding their presence and martyrdom in Rome. The author traces the evolution of these traditions from their earliest forms in the New Testament and other early Christian writings through their elaboration in apocryphal acts and martyrologies. By analyzing the different versions of these legends, the book sheds light on the development of Christian thought and practice in the early centuries of the Church. The author argues that the legends of Peter and Paul played a significant role in the formation of Christian identity and the establishment of the Church in Rome as the center of Western Christianity.
