Dabei hat auch die von Culmann gewahlte Bezeichnung mathematisch-technischer Grossen zum Teil der von deutschen Technikern vereinbarten weichen mussen. Soweit es sich hierbei nur um den Ersatz gewisser Buchstaben durch andere aus dem selben Alphabete handelte geschah der Uebergang ohne Be denken; ungerne dagegen wurde die von Culmann eingefuhrte strenge Scheidung verschiedener Alphabete preisgegeben be sonders da nach der Ansicht des Unterzeichneten dieses von der Mehrheit beschlossene Fallenlassen einer schonen Regel bei einigem guten Willen hatte vermieden werden konnen. Indessen schien es nicht ratsam, in einer so untergeordneten Sache bloss einem Grundsatze zu lieb den Conservativen zu spielen.
