Excerpt from Maternity Care and the Welfare of Young Children in a Homesteading County in Montana
The work included also a series of children's health conferences. Parents were invited to bring their children to these conferences for a thorough examination by a Government physician who, though she gave no treatment or medicine, advised the parents about the care and feeding of the children and offered them the opportunity of dis cussing the many health problems which are encountered in rearing children. To these conferences the State board of health sent the public-health nurse who is in charge of its child-welfare division. Thus the conferences were a joint activity of the Children's Bureau, the State board of health, and the local neighborhoods in which they were held, where active committees did much to make them a success.
