Les Romans de la Table Ronde, Vol. 2: Mis en Nouveau Langage Et Accompagnés de Recherches sur l'Origine Et la Caractère de Ces Grandes Compositions (Classic Reprint) (French Edition) - Softcover
Synopsis
This book analyzes the historical development of the legend of Merlin, a legendary figure associated with the tales of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It traces Merlin's evolution from his obscure origins in Welsh folklore to his prominent role in the Arthurian romances of the 12th century. The author examines the various literary and historical sources that contributed to the creation of Merlin's character, including Geoffrey of Monmouth's "History of the Kings of Britain" and the anonymous "Vulgate Merlin." Through a close reading of these texts, the book illuminates the complex and multifaceted nature of Merlin, exploring his role as a prophet, magician, and advisor to kings. Ultimately, the book argues that Merlin's enduring popularity is a testament to the power of myth to shape our understanding of the past and to inspire our imaginations.
