A practical guide to formatting data with a programmable approach. This edition explains how Reform reads, reorganizes, and outputs data using control cards.
The book presents a hands-on look at how a data-deck-driven program handles input, output, and the transformation of records. It outlines the structure of input and output formats, the role of strings and fields, and how to manage data flows through a pair of subroutines. The material stays focused on practical methods for manipulating formatted data files.
Ideal for readers who want a concrete walkthrough of data formatting programs and their control logic.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book presents a program called REFORM, developed by the author to reformat fixed-field files containing up to nine different card formats and as many as twenty-six arbitrary strings of characters. REFORM can be used to select or abridge information from any of the cards and print that information, or reformat new cards in any desired order or arrangement. It finds applications in the modification of formatted files of data and the insertion of labels, comments, headings, or typesetting code instructions into existing files, either permanently or for printing of reports. The program was written in ASA FORTRAN IV and care has been taken to reduce to a minimum the program changes required to make the program run on other computers. It can be used on any computer with a compiler accepting the standard FORTRAN IV instructions. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781390278125_0
