Je ne peux pas m'étendre ici sur le contenu et la forme du Code hittite; je renvoie pour tout cela a mon commentaire. Je dirai seulement quelques mots sur ma transcription et traduction. Les lectures sûres sont données dans la transcription en caractères cursifs, les lectures incer taines en caractères normaux (romains), tandis que dans la traduction les caractères normaux indiquent une traduction sûre, les caractères cursifs au contraire une traduction douteuse; une lecture ou traduction trés douteuse est accompagnée en outre d'un point d'interrogation. Les cro chets indiquent le complètement d'un mot ou signe détruit; les paren thèses contiennent des explications ou complètements de' l'auteur de cet ouvrage. Si un mot hittite est manquant dans le principal exemplaire d'une tablette du Code, mais au contraire préservé dans un autre fragment, ce fait est constaté seulement dans la transcription; dans la traduction ce mot est donné comme préservé, sans crochets, bien entendu dans le cas seul où son complètement dans le principal exemplaire aussi est sûr ou au moins très probable. Les mots donnés en majuscules sont des idéogrammes sumériens ou des mots accadiens dont la lecture hittite ne nous est pas encore connue.
