Excerpt from Beaver Dam Lutheran Church Cemetery, "a Challenge for Our Time"
More than two hundred years ago, Christ erected His church just sixty feet from this hallowed bit of earth. The simple meeting house, 28 feet square, was built of hand hewn logs and rested on a foundation of native rocks. Today the rugged foundation remains alone on the grassy turf to proclaim God's glory.
In another day and age, German families of Lutheran faith gathered in this rustic house of worship, sat on rough handmade pews and in their native tongue sang hymns of old. It was here that the early settlers thanked God for their bles sings and prayed to Him for guidance and protection in the untamed new world.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book tells the story of Beaver Dam Lutheran Church, one of the oldest Lutheran congregations in the Piedmont region of North Carolina. The author traces the congregationââ â¢s origins back to South Germany, where peace-loving Germans fled intolerable conditions and sought refuge in the Pennsylvania colony. Disillusioned by their experiences there, many of these settlers of Lutheran faith migrated south across the Blue Ridge, eventually settling near Beaver Dam Creek and Long Creek in what is now Gaston County. Here, they built their homes, established their graveyard, and formed their meeting house, which would later become known as Beaver Dam Lutheran Church. The book provides a detailed account of the churchââ â¢s history, including its early pastors, its first constitution, and the construction of its first building. The author also explores the congregationââ â¢s role in the development of other Lutheran churches in the area, particularly St. Markââ â¢s Lutheran Church, which was founded in 1858. St. Markââ â¢s became a ââ Å"mother churchââ  that nurtured the growth of other Lutheran congregations in Gaston, Cleveland, and Lincoln Counties. This book offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the Lutheran Church in North Carolina, and the enduring legacy of a congregation that played a vital role in the development of the region.
