Synopsis
This book is a detailed study of the structure of metamorphic rocks in the Mineral King area of the southern Sierra Nevada in California. The author describes the petrology, geometry, and kinematics of these rocks to unravel their complex structural history. The author argues that the rocks were deformed by isoclinal folding along subhorizontal axes, followed by pervasive shear along cleavage planes that transposed and disrupted the original bedding. The author concludes that this style of deformation, which is common in metamorphic belts, is a result of a complex interplay between rock type, fluid presence, and stress conditions.
