Covering the period 1596 to 1644, these records provide a glimpse into the everyday lives of people in Devon during this era and have been made accessible to family historians and scholars alike. Ordinary individuals are brought to life through events which usually only affected a small number of people: births, deaths, and marriages. Readers will gain insights into the roles and responsibilities of key members of the community such as the vicar, churchwardens and parish clerk, as well as the names of local tradesmen, landowners and their employees. Also included are numerous records of the poor, the sick, vagrants and orphaned children.
