Il se tait sur les causes du départ de_gentile; mais son silence même est un argument pour donner, à penser qu'il provint de causes toutes naturelles, et serait une sorte de réfutation du motif allégué par Ridolfi, si on n'avait, pour expliquer ce retour quelque peu précipité, les préparatifs de la guerre que le Sultan se proposait de conduire en personne, et dont le but était connu de lui seul.
