Standards of performance are specifications which may be applied to machines, instruments, or devices as standards of quality are applied to materials. To be of value they should specify the factors involved in terms susceptible of measurement. Specifications for electric generators, motors, transformers, weighing devices, steam engines, are standards of performance, T 0 determine the performance of a machine requires the application of standards of measurement and standards of quality.
Standards of practice are the expression of scientific or technical requirements in the form of rules or laws. They involve such matters as the safety of property or persons, the relations between different corporations or between corporations and the public. Building codes and standards of electrical construction are examples of this class of standard.
