Excerpt from Logarithmic and Trigonometric Tables

For the investigations of these rules the student is referred to the Treatise on Trigonometry, p. 87, or to works on Algebra. The Common Logarithms (briggs's) are the only ones used in extensive numerical calculations, and the only ones given in the following tables. The common logarithm of a number is the exponent of that power of 10 which is equal to the number. Thus, the logarithm of 100 is 2, because 10' 100. This is usually written log 100 2. 10 is the base of the common system.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book serves as a comprehensive guide to trigonometry, a branch of mathematics concerned with the relationships between angles and sides of triangles. Rooted in ancient Greek geometry and further developed by Islamic mathematicians, trigonometry has evolved into an essential tool in various fields, including astronomy, navigation, surveying, and engineering. The author presents a thorough exploration of trigonometric functions, such as sine, cosine, tangent, and cotangent, and their logarithmic counterparts. Through detailed explanations and numerous practical examples, the book delves into the calculation of angles and distances in triangles, the use of logarithmic tables for efficient computation, and the application of trigonometric principles to solve real-world problems. This book not only provides a solid foundation in trigonometry but also introduces readers to its broader applications in celestial mechanics and land surveying. By understanding the principles and techniques presented, individuals can gain a deeper appreciation for the role of trigonometry in shaping our understanding of the physical world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
