The stopping of the supply of the enormous quan tity of bait which the French require for their system oi fishing on the Banks is, in my opinion, the only means of checking the rapid decline of our cod fishery. It has been continually declining, and ifthe supply of bait to the French be continued it will decline, and just as fast as it has been declining, and the future of Newfoundland will be terrible to contemplate!
