Excerpt from The Law of Expert Testimony
In the Preface to the first edition of this work, the author stated its purpose to be to furnish to the practitioner a more extended presentation of the law relating to the testimony of experts than the treatises on evidence afforded. It seemed to him desirable that the law on this important subject should be set forth more in detail than it had been found practicable to do in the general treatises on the law of evidence. Writers on the general sub jcet had made no adequate attempt to bring to gether the numerous cases relating to the testimony of experts, and as the subject was one of great and growing importance, it was deemed wise that a work on expert testimony Should be prepared to supply what seemed to be an evident want.
