Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book analyzes the relationship between capital and interest in the distribution of wealth. The author argues that interest arises from the existence of a class of capitalists who own and control the means of production. The author posits interest as a premium paid to those who abstain from immediate consumption to accrue and lend out capital. The author also proposes that the productivity of capital determines the rate of return. The author concludes that in advanced communities, the process of capitalistic application of labor leads to greater productivity, which in turn leads to accumulation of capital, increased return to capitalists, and ultimately emergence of a class of individuals who do not need to work for a living. This process results in inequality in the distribution of wealth, with the capitalists appropriating a disproportionate share of the gains from increased productivity.
