First UK edition, following the first edition published in the United States in 1803. xii, [ii], 344, 35, plates. 30 hand-coloured plates, including frontis. Contemporary binding of half morocco over marbled boards; gilt lettering and devices to spine. Some rubbing and wear, bumping to corners. Offsetting to ffep. from previous owner's bookplate. Occasional light foxing or marking, though quite clean internally. The American edition was the first book on botany published in America. Barton was Professor of Materia Medica, Natural History and Botany in the University of Pennsylvania when this work was published. Revised and corrected, with the addition of British examples and occasional notes. A very nice example of an important work in the post-Revolution period in the United States. 8vo.
