By Alexander Tilloch", Vol. V. - VI,422,4 pp. and 7 engraved plates. (Entire voulume offered). Rumford's paper: pp. 162-174. (November 1799). Internally clean. Rumford's paper was published the same year in "Philosophical Transactions". His experiments with heat tried to show that heat is not a material substance, are famous episodes in the history of physics as they gave the death blow to the so-called caloric theory of heat.The volume contains also WILLIAM HERSCHEL "On the nature and Construction of the Sun and Fixed Stars", pp. 114-123 a. 222-232, originally published in the "Transactions" in 1794.
