Ca. 19,5 x 14,5 cm. Emil Orlik war Maler, Grafiker, Fotograf und Kunsthandwerker. Er studierte an der privaten Malschule Heinrich Knirrs in München und besuchte danach die Münchner Kunstakademie. Bei seinen Experimenten mit graphischen Techniken widmete er sich besonders dem Holzschnitt. Orlik war Professor und Leiter der Graphikklasse an der Kunstgewerbeschule Wien, Mitglied der Wiener Secession und veröffentlichte in der Secessions-Zeitschrift Ver Sacrum. Nach 1905 wurde er Vorstandsmitglied im Deutschen Künstlerbund und lehrte in Berlin. - Auf dunkelbraunem Original-Karton aufgelegt. 1p., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged and creased paper. The letter begins: 'I beg a thousand time pardon, dear Mr Cartwright for my coming too late yesterday at your house. I intended coming at half past twelve; but the enormous distance which separates the different points of your metropolis, was the cause of my coming much later than that time.' At the risk of disturbing Cartwright further, he suggests that he comes 'to town before Friday next [.] Wednesday there will be a great review of troops for the Grand-duke.' He believes that this will not take place before noon, but 'At all events if you fix me an hour I sall come at it.' The reference in the letter would appear to be to the visit of the Grand Duke Alexei Alexandrovich Romanov to New York in November 1871.
