Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. Light brown cloth on boards with gilt lettering to spine and front board. Light bumping to extremities. Very clean and tidy throughout. A scarce book, in what appears to be an unusual format. The original was published by the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archaeological Society (Printed by Titus Wilson) as Extra Series Volume XIII, in 1913. I have compared to another 1913 edition available on line and whilst the content the remains the same, the printing and photographs appear to have been reproduced, either by a photographic process, or photocopying or re-printing using original plates. The binding and quality of paper suggests some form of re-print, although there is nothing within the book to indicate this. However, regardless of this, the contents are extremely comprehensive and well presented with a myriad of fold out diagrams, and photographs. This is a very scarce book in any format.

Cloth. Condition: Poor. Major damp damage. Staining to boards and pp, warped, cloth coming away from front board. However, apart from the first 30 odd pages which are damp stained the rest of the pages are relatively clean and tidy, all text appears to be readable. Size: 8vo.

The author is a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries and has transcribed records dating sometimes from as far back as the 13th century concerning the main roads, pre-reformation clergy, recusants, anti-Jacobites, rateable values, window taxes, prices of cereals, the lunatic asylum, pauper badges, cock fighting, the game laws, and police administration, among others.
