There is occasional foxing, the tissue protectors are tanned. The boards are leather and marbled paper. The collection is not dated, my date of 1840 is approximate. The printed area of each plate is 6 7/16 x 4 13/16. The paper is 9 5/8 x 7. All orders packed with care, most dust jackets protected by Brodart sleeve, independent bookseller since 2011.

Der Standort des Zeichners befand sich auf der Brücke vor der links im Bild sichtbaren limmatseitigen Rathausfront - Als Wirtschaft erwähnt wird das 'Haus zum roten Schwert' 1421, der Häuserblock mit dem 'Schwert' bestand jedoch schon um 1265. "Der Gasthof, der sich seit 1612 während 200 Jahren im Besitz der Familie Ott befand und besonders zu Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts ein vornehmes Wirtshaus wurde, suchte diese Rolle noch bis zum Ausgang des 19. Jahrhunderts zu bewahren. 1918 vom Staat erworben; seit 1936 Privathaus." 'Neue Wühre' reicht vom Hotel 'zum Storchen' am Weinplatz, quasi dem Eckhaus, bis zum Zunfthaus 'Zur Meisen' beim Münsterplatz (Marktgasse Nr. 2). Sie "wurde zwischen 1637-1643 längs der Häuser am linken Limmatufer als linksufrige Verbindung zwischen der untern und obern Brücke (Rathaus- und Münsterbrücke) ausgeführt. Einzelne Häuser haben allerdings ihre Eingänge an den Seitengassen" (Hoffmann/Kläui, p. 239; vgl. K. Escher, KD ZH Bd. 4, Stadt Zürich I, p. 417 ff., Zunfthäuser/Meise) - Der 'Storchen' wird schon 1357, und als Wirtshaus 1471 erwähnt. "Seit dem 16. Jahrhundert spielte der 'Storchen' neben dem 'Schwert' eine bedeutende Rolle. Vornehme Gäste, Tagsatzungsherren, Gesandte und Staatsmänner stiegen hier ab. [.] 1938 wurde das Haus [.] abgebrochen und an [dieser] Stelle das neue Hotel zum Storchen errichtet." (Hoffmann/Kläui, p. 234 f.) -- Franz Schmid (Schwyz 1796-1851 ibid.), Aquarellmaler, Panoramazeichner und Kupferstecher, zeichnete u.v.a. das grosse Panorama vom Grossmünsterturm aus. Er "darf mit Recht als der größte Panoramen- und Städtezeichner seiner Zeit angesehen werden. [.] Seine Zeichnung ist immer korrekt, die Behandlung des Aquarells kräftig und flott."
